Role Overview: Technical Support Engineer (Japan)

Atlassian is looking for a Technical Support Engineer to join its growing support organization focused on serving customers in Japan. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring customers succeed with Atlassian products by delivering fast, accurate, and high‑quality technical support.

The primary goal of this role is simple but powerful: make customers awesome.

You will work closely with customers, internal engineering teams, and product specialists to resolve issues, improve support processes, and strengthen Atlassian’s reputation for world‑class customer experience.


What You’ll Do

As a Technical Support Engineer at Atlassian, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing a consistent, high‑quality support experience for customers

  • Performing technical triage, root cause analysis, debugging, and problem resolution

  • Troubleshooting complex issues across multiple Atlassian products

  • Handling critical customer issues with urgency and professionalism

  • Applying and improving support methodologies and best practices

You will receive comprehensive onboarding and training, enabling you to become a specialist in one or more Atlassian products, system technologies, and network technologies.


Required Qualifications

On your first day, Atlassian expects you to bring the following experience and skills:

Professional Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in:

    • Technical Support

    • Software Services

    • System Administration

    • Supporting a large end‑user community

  • Proven experience in handling critical incidents and complex technical issues

Technical Skills

  • Strong database skills, including the ability to write and update SQL queries confidently

  • Experience with Web technologies, including:

    • DNS

    • HTTP

    • APIs

    • REST calls

  • Familiarity with Cloud technologies, especially AWS

  • Solid understanding of networking concepts, such as:

    • LAN / WAN

    • TCP/IP

    • OSI Model

    • NAT, DHCP

    • TLS / SSL

    • Routing Protocols

Language Requirements

  • Fluent Japanese (both written and spoken) – mandatory


Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following skills will be a strong advantage:

  • Business‑level English communication skills

  • Experience supporting or understanding Java applications

  • Hands‑on experience with Splunk

  • Exposure to AI‑related technologies

  • Prior experience working with Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, etc.)
