Atlassian is hiring a highly experienced Head of Data Engineering to lead its global data engineering organization. This is a fully remote leadership role focused on building large-scale data platforms, driving product strategy through data, and enabling analytics, data science, machine learning, and AI workloads across the company.

As Head of Data Engineering, you will be responsible for leading a world-class data engineering practice. You will define technical strategy, shape modern data architecture, and deliver data products that support business-critical decisions.
Atlassian processes billions of events every month, and multiple teams depend on data platforms to drive insights and product improvements. In this role, you will partner closely with IT, product engineering, analytics, and data science teams to ensure scalable, reliable, and high-performance data systems.
This is a senior leadership position reporting directly to the Head of Engineering.
Lead and scale global data engineering teams
Define and execute data engineering strategy and architecture
Build large-scale data platforms to support analytics, ML, and AI workloads
Deliver high-impact data products for business and product teams
Partner with IT, product, analytics, and data science stakeholders
Establish best practices for data reliability, observability, and governance
Drive DevOps culture within data platforms including CI/CD and monitoring
Support multiple enterprise-level data programs across the organization
15+ years of experience building and scaling data teams
10+ years leading data engineering organizations
Proven experience managing managers and large distributed teams (20+ engineers)
10+ years delivering data and analytics solutions for product teams
Strong understanding of data architecture and infrastructure planning
Excellent product sense and ability to guide business value using data
Experience working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams
Strong background in microservices and RESTful APIs
Hands-on experience with DevOps best practices in data platforms
Experience with CI/CD, data observability, monitoring, and data lineage
Proficiency with BI tools such as Tableau, Amplitude, and Redash
Graduate degree in Computer Science or a related field
Experience working in SaaS companies
Background in Machine Learning systems
Contributions to open-source projects
Atlassian offers competitive and equitable compensation based on location and experience. In the United States, base salary ranges are:
Zone A: $234,000 – $305,500
Zone B: $210,600 – $274,950
Zone C: $194,400 – $253,800
Additional compensation may include bonuses, equity, and comprehensive benefits.
